Did I choose the best laptop ?
Keys to choosing the best laptop computer :
Who is the laptop user? When choosing a laptop computer, it is important to understand who will be using it.., school student, college student, professional businessman ,office worker, etc.
Where will the laptop be used? For heavy mobile users such as college students and professionals, size, weight and battery life are very important. So when looking over the reviews and relevant specs, keep those factors in mind. The average high school student uses a laptop from room to room in their house, and have loads of access to AC power most of the time. So for these users, the factors listed above may not be as critical.
How will the laptop be used? The more mobile the user, the more durability is needed. Heavy users ie sales reps spend a great deal of time start and shutting down their laptops every day. an average heavy user will open and shut their laptop computer 5 times a day. Although that may not seem alot of wear and tear, there is also the issue of general handling. Heavy users will be travelling from location to location, in and out of cars,on and off planes etc on a constant basis. This increases the likelihood of damage to the laptop computer, via dropping, bumping and banging, drink spills on the keyboard, etc….
Should I buy a service contract for my laptop? the answer is YES. When you think about carrying around a fragile piece of electronics costing 800 or more, the price of a typical service contract is a bargain. for a relatively small price 50 per laptop computer, its worth it to for you peace of mind.
.How much should I expect to pay for a laptop? It used to be hard to find a quality laptop under 600; however, this is no longer true. There are several companies with great offers, starting around 300. The options / upgrades you select have a large impact in what you can expect to pay. Having a list of what you want in a laptop, such as memory, speed, hard drive size, burners, etc..will help when you go shopping. Although online laptop computer manufacturers allow a great deal of customization, the general public are easily serviced with a “off the shelf” standard laptop computer.
What Laptop Brand Should I Select? the worlds your oyster in this respect with the amount of laptop computer manufactures out there,with different colours and sizes its everyones personal choice , I myself find that acer have all the features which service my needs.

Cheap and inexpensive laptops are available plenty in number in the market. While buying laptops, price factor alone should not limit the purchase. Cheap laptops are made available to the consumer to suit the budget as well as specific requirements. The person buying a laptop should be very clear regarding the required features, options and then conduct a search to match his needs. The place of purchasing cheap laptops is also important. There are various sources from which a person can buy cheap laptops. Out of all the sources, Internet is considered to be the best place to purchase laptops. A same laptop model can be sold at different prices in different websites. The purchaser can easily select the one with a lesser price easily. Also it is better to avoid impulse purchase as far as laptops are concerned, since it is impossible for a lay man to comprehend the hi-tech lingo associated with laptop computers like the flat panel TFT, WiFi connectivity, wireless and many more features.
Features to be considered before buying cheap laptops:
Processor of the laptop: A processor is very important to run applications and to perform on-screen tasks. The processor should not be less than 1.4 GHz as it may affect the quick performance of the laptop. For day today operation using word processing, e-mail, spread sheets etc the above processor speed is enough. When Pentium processors are bought they assure a longer battery life and at the same time they are quick.
Screen size of the cheap laptops should not be less than 12.1 inches. The screen size of laptops is measured diagonally. The larger the screen size, the higher the resolution, making it easy for viewing more information all at once.
Laptops should have a good battery life as they are carried with the operator for presentations, or for calculations whenever and wherever they are required. A laptop with a good battery life should be able to perform jobs ranging from 3 to 7 hours of non stop work without any electrical charge required in between. Lithium ion rechargeable batteries are an ideal choice.
The hard drive capacity is very important to store large amount of data on to the laptops. A cheap laptop can be chosen with a hard drive capacity ranging from 20 GB to 40 GB depending on the persons usage.
The keyboards of laptops are different from those of the desktop computers. The keys on the keypad are relatively smaller and are packed closely with each other. Hence, it is very important to see if it can be handled comfortably before purchasing a cheap laptop.
Touchpad or pointing stick inbuilt with a laptop can be more very useful than a mouse connected via USB port. Two USB ports are more than enough for a cheap laptop; in case more ports are required the user can use an external USB hub.
The ideal weight of the laptops should be between 4 10 pounds, never go for a more weighing laptop even if it comes for a very cheap amount. In order to reduce the weight of the laptops, external CD drives can be used. For communications a built in Ethernet port is more ideal than the serial ports or infrared ports.

CDs or External Drive Which is Better for Storing Purposes?
As you input more and more data into your computer, you may start to notice that you are running out of available space. You should start to explore you external storage alternatives to decide what will work best for you. Even if it seems like you have enough internal space now, everyone computer will fill to capacity at some point. External drives and CDs are two of the most common storage options.
An external hard drive is a great way to store data and works great to back it up as well. An external hard drive serves the same function as a regular hard drive except it stands alone outside the main hard drive. Also, it is usually physically larger than a traditional hard drive. It can rest on any flat surface or desktop and can be taken with you.
An external hard drive is connected to the computer with a high-speed interface cable, such as a USB cable. This allows the external hard drive to effectively communicate with the computer system. The external drive can be turned on or off when not in use.
Besides being a secure way to back up files or act as extra storage, one of the main advantages of an external hard drive is that it is portable. This means you can take it with you wherever you go. All you have to do is plug it into a computer and you have access to all of your data.
Some households even keep different drives for different family members. This works as a good way of organizing your information and cuts down on confusion. This way you can also keep sensitive materials away from prying eyes as well.
Overall, the external hard drive is a great solution to storage problems. Another option is to store data on compact discs. CDs have both benefits and disadvantages to using them for data storage.
Storing information on an optical disk such as a CD is another possible solution to your computer storage issues. A CD drive will write data onto a disk using short bursts from a laser. By burning data or information onto a disk it can be stored externally and easily accessed. This way the data is readily available without taking up room on your hard drive.
It is recommended that you keep two copies of CDs with important information on them stored at two separate locations. Designate one copy as the working copy that will be used frequently, and store the other copy away for safekeeping.
Most CDs are limited to 700 megabytes of storage space. This means that you may need to use several CDs to store a large file. This may become frustrating if you have a large amount of data to store.
While CDs may be effective for storing small files, the amount of the storage process that requires human interaction may make storing significant amounts of files on CDs cumbersome. This is because the process involves inserting discs, running software, removing disks and labeling and cataloging them.
CDs may seem like the least costly solution, but keep in mind that CDs can be easily damaged, lost or stolen. In addition, if you need to store large quantities of data you will need a massive amount of CDs and it can be considerably time consuming. With all of these factors in mind, external drives seem like the less risky and more convenient storage option.
As you can see there are advantages to both external hard drives and CDs for storage solutions. What works best for you will probably depend heavily on your personal needs.

Buying a Refurbished Laptop Computer

Summary:
This article discusses tips for buying a refurbished laptop computer.
Keywords:
Laptop, computer, refurbished, buy, purchase
Article Body:
When considering buying a used or even a new laptop, the first thing you need to do is to determine your computing needs.
* word processing
* e-mail
* browsing web pages
* moving the laptop from home to work (weight)
* gaming
* on-line shopping
* a database application
* personal finance
* is battery power important
Check out the Minimum Systems Requirements needed to do all of the your applications. They will not come with the laptop, as refurbished laptops often only include the Operating System (OS). If they don’t include an installed OS, then be prepared to install it yourself. This is not for those that don’t know what they are doing, so research what is involved before buying one without an OS.
Once you understand what you really need, you need to determine your budget.
Most old laptops do not have working batteries. If you need a battery, shop around to figure out how much they cost. You should know that on older laptops, batteries don’t last more than an hour or two, so purchasing a new battery for the purpose of longer battery life may not be worth the expense. And by all means, stick with a name brand IBM, Dell, Toshiba, Compaq-HP.
If you are new to computers and you want to browse the World Wide Web, you will need to obtain the services of an ISP (Internet Service Provider). There are basically two types of Internet access options: broadband (cable modem, DSL, satellite) and lowband (dial-up). Broadband is the preferred type since download speeds can range from 128kbs to 6000kbs. The faster the better, of course. But, if your budget is tight, dial-up works just fine for typical browsing and e-mail usage.
Your choice of ISP’s will be dependent upon two things: budget and location. If the budget allows and you don’t mind paying upwards of $35-50+ per month, you can purchase a broadband connection. However, even if money were no object, your physical location will determine what types of services are available to you. Broadband is not available everywhere (with the exception of satellite). If you have a telephone line, you can always choose dial-up. AOL’s bread and butter is dial-up users. Do your research to determine what is available in your area and compare costs.
And for you gamers out there, you definitely need a reliable broadband connection. Gaming over a lowband connection can be a frustrating experience and sometimes even impossible. You will need to check out the minimum systems requirement for the games you are interested in using to make sure the CPU speed and the RAM and graphic chip requirements will support the games you wish to play.
Once you have figured out your budget and your needs and the requirements of your laptop it is time to search for the laptop of your desires.
Some people choose to search at www.ebay.com. If you do be sure to check out the seller to be sure you will have a smooth transaction.
Many people don’t want the hassle of bidding, so use your favorite search engine: Google or Yahoo or MSN for the terms “used laptops” or “refurbished laptop”.
An important thing to keep in mind is how will the vendor treat you should there be a problem. If you don’t like their attitude or they don’t pick up the phone shop elsewhere. Price is important, but if you have a problem and spent the least amount of money possible the vendor may not have any resources available to help you after you have purchased and spent your money.
If all the above seems like too much of a hassle, then buy a new computer. It will cost around $700 + but will come with a new battery and a one year warranty, although some new ones seem to have only 90 day warranties. It will also have the latest Windows XP system and an 800 number to call the vendor, should their be a problem. I’d call the 800# first before buying to get an idea what kind of support they will provide.

Budding Graphic Artists Get a Graphics Tablet for your Computer
A graphics tablet allows users to sketch images and graphics by hand and then import the drawings into a computer. These tablets, also known as a graphics pad or digitalized drawing tablets prove extremely beneficial to graphic artists.
The tablet is made up of two components. It has a flat drawing surface and a separate pen or stylus to sketch with. The set up simulates drawing on a piece of paper with a standard pen or pencil. The stylus is made with technology such that repetitive use of the point on the surface will not cause damage.
When selecting a graphics tablet, it is important to choose one with a stylus that is right for you. The pen should be comfortable and easy to use. The stylus may be free standing or it can come tethered to the tablet. You may want to look for a tablet that comes with a holder for the stylus.
In addition, you should find out if the stylus requires batteries. If it does, keep in mind that the addition of batteries will make the pen heavier. You should consider what a heavier stylus may mean to your drawing technique and ability.
Some graphics pen will have an erasing end similar to what you would find on a pencil. Some styluses come with buttons or switches that can be programmed to take care or your most frequently used functions.
Graphics tablets are realistic devices used create two dimensional computer graphics. When you draw on the flat surface with the stylus the image does not appear on the tablet; rather it shows up directly on the computer monitor.
Graphics tablets come in a variety of sizes. You should select the size of your tablet based on your personal needs. The most popular sizes for users that mostly use it as a hobby are four by five inches and six by eight inches. Users that utilize the tablet for more professional reasons, such as illustrations and computer-aided designs, may require a larger tablet.
There are some key factors t o keep in mind when considering the size of your tablet. For example, larger tablets are generally more costly than the smaller versions. In addition, larger models require more range of arm motion to draw. They also take up more space in your workspace.
Traditionally graphics tablets were sized to match up with the ratio of dimensions of most computer monitors. However, recent innovations have made wide screen aspect ratio monitors increasingly popular. The ratio of the dimensions of the tablet does not have to be equal to those of the monitor with these types of tablets. The software that is included with the wide screen aspect ratio monitors map the images over accurately to your computer.
Most graphics tablets utilize USB interfaces to connect to your computer. If you have an older model computer that does not have a USB port you may need to seek out a graphics tablet that has a serial interface. These types of tablets also need to be connected to a power outlet. If you wish to use a graphics tablet wirelessly you can take advantage of Bluetooth technology to do just that.
When selecting a graphics tablet you should also keep in mind its level of pressure sensitivity. This refers to the maximum amount of pressure you can apply to the surface of the tablet. The higher the pressure sensitivity levels of the tablet the more control you will have and the more natural the surface will feel. The most common sensitivity levels for tablets are 256, 512, and 1024. Keep in mind that the price of the tablet generally increases as the level of sensitivity increases.

Anonymity typically refers to a person and means that the personal identity or personally identifiable information of that person is not known. It derives from the Greek word that means without a name or name-less. An anonymity set refers to the property of an arbitrary element, which is a human, object, etc, and refers to the property of that element of being identifiable within this set. If it cant be identified, it is said to be anonymous.
Anonymity is not a sure thing and the degree of anonymity one has may vary. The term “anonymous message” usually refers to message, usually transmitted over some form of a network, that does not carry any information about its sender and its intended recipient. It is unclear if several of these messages have been sent by the same sender or if they have the same intended recipient.
Sometimes a person may want to establish a reputation with some other entity, without their identity being disclosed to that entity. In this is the case, it may be useful for the person to establish pseudonym, which is a unique identifier, with the other entity. Examples of pseudonyms are things such as nicknames, credit card numbers, student numbers, bank account numbers or IP addresses. Doing this allows the other entity to link different messages from the same person, which helps maintain the long-term relationship. Typically pseudonyms do not contain personally identifying information. Communication where pseudonyms are used are not called “anonymous”, but instead are called “pseudonymous.
However, in other contexts what matters is that these concepts hide a person’s legal identity. In these contexts people may not distinguish between anonymity and pseudonymity.
Anonymity occurs when there are no identifying characteristics, such as a name or description of physical appearance that are disclosed. This can occur when there is a lack of interest in learning this information, or through intentional efforts to hide these characteristics. Anonymity can occur unintentionally, as is often the case with victims, or when a body is discovered in such a state that the physical features used to identify someone no longer exist. A winner of a lottery jackpot is anonymous until that person turns in the winning lottery ticket, and many acts of charity are performed anonymously because some benefactors do not wish to be acknowledged for their actions.
There are many reasons why someone may want to obscure their identity and become anonymous. Several of these reasons are legal and legitimate. For example a person who feels threatened by someone else might try to hide from the threat using different methods of anonymity. There are also many illegal reasons to want to be anonymous. Criminals typically try to keep themselves anonymous to either conceal the fact that a crime has been committed, or to avoid being apprehended.
When sending messages over the Internet, many people are worried about being annonymous. There are many different systems, such as Usenet, e-mail, instant messaging, web forums, and P2P systems allow this anonymity because there is no obvious way for a casual user to connect other users with a “real world” identity.
If you want strong anonymity, intermediate services may be used to stop attempts at identification, even by the government. Many people use cryptography, passage through multiple legal jurisdictions, and various methods to thwart traffic analysis to get that anonymity. Examples of the people who use these methods include anonymous remailers, Anonymous P2P systems, and services of the Anonymizer company.
Opponents of this online anonymity suggest that anonymity enables or encourages illegal or dangerous activity. These people believe that without anonymity, these things would would be less likely, or not occur.
There are many different ways to achieve anonymity on the Internet, and it is an important feature if you are looking for some privacy and security

An Easy Primer on Choosing a Scanner for your Computer
With so many choices in scanners today it is not always easy to know which type to buy. There are three basic types of scanners on the market and these include the flatbed scanner, the film/slide scanner and the drum scanner. While the flatbed scanner and the film/slide scanner have their differences they do share a similarity in that they both have the same fundamental operational theory. Both these types of scanners utilize the same light source that makes it possible to reflect an image onto a mirror and the mirror then is able to reflect the image through the lens and then into the camera. This is the light/color sensitive elements that are able to translate the image that comes through the lens into data that is digital in nature and then transfers the data to the computer. Once this happens the digital image can then be saved as a file on the computer and then you can see it, print it out and if necessary you can then edit it by way of software geared towards photo editing.
The differences between these scanners lie in how the image is processed and how proficiently the color of the digital image comes out. The most popular kind of scanner is the flatbed scanner because it is incredibly versatile and is very simple to understand and use. Be aware however that all three kinds of scanners have their advantages.
A flatbed scanner allows a person to scan almost any item that will be able to fit on the surface that can be scanned. The flatbed scanner also makes it possible to scan 3D objects. Most flatbed scanners take into account items that are two feet in length by 1.5 feet wide and also items that are a few inches thick. Most items for flatbed scanners are fitted for pictures that are 8.5x 11(A4) paper.
Flatbed scanners are able to scan photos and many of them are also able to scan negatives, transparencies and slides by way of an adaptor and software. Some flatbed scanners are able to have an addition of an automatic document feeder included to them. In this way the scanner is like a photocopier. Multiple documents can be used for the scanner.
A film scanner is also referred to as a slide or negative scanner. This type of scanner is meant only to scan film and they tend to be more expensive to purchase than a flatbed scanner. A film scanner has a higher native optical resolution, which is usually 1800 DPI. A film scanner is compact and while some are designed with a pull out tray for film, others come equip with an automatic film loader.
Regular consumers do not often purchase a drum scanner but professionals in the photo industry commonly do. A drum scanner will give tremendous color accuracy but it is extremely expensive to buy. If you need this type of scanner then be ready for the price tag- drum scanners start at approximately $30,000 and up. The way the drum scanner operates is very different from the flatbed scanner or the film scanner. This type of scanner makes use of a round cylinder drum where the film or photo is positioned and a Photo-Multiplier Tube (PMT) acts as a sensor to record the image. The drum then rotates and reflects the image in a vertical direction. The lens then moves carefully over the photo in a horizontal direction until the entire image has been fully captured. Color filters transmit the scanned image to the PMT. These filters are red, green and blue and are abbreviated to RGB. These filter together are able to create millions of different color combinations.

Spyware and adware programs have become constant threats to computer users. Spyware as well as adware programs work their way into computers and can become a hassle and may even do damage in a variety of ways. In such cases, an adware or spyware removal tool may be used to protect computers from such threats and keep it safe from further damage.
In essence, there is a fine line whether a malicious program can be called either an adware or a spyware. An adware is usually considered as a legitimate alternative offered by software companies to consumers who do not wish to pay for a software product. An adware can be distributed as a program, game or software utility designed and distributed as freeware.
There are cases where adware programs that are considered as freeware have features and functions that are blocked until you pay in order to register it. As freeware, most or all features are enabled for use but may have sponsored advertisements that come along with them while the freeware is being used. These sponsored advertisements usually run in a small section of the software interface or it can be displayed as a pop-up ad box on your PC. When you stop running the software, the ads should disappear.
There are times that these ads frequently pop-up on your desktop when you least expect them to. Such adware programs may suddenly come as you are doing some important work on your PC and may become somewhat of a hassle. Try as you might, you cannot find a way disable them and stop distracting you.
For the distraction that they cause, some adware programs would try to force their way into bombarding you with ads even though you do not wish to buy any of the product that they offer. You begin to lose control of your computer and may not be able to do your job well on your PC because of some adware nuisance, as remedy, you might need an adware removal tool for this.
Spy ware, on the other hand, can be a hassle to a computer user in a different sort of way. A spyware may work and look like an adware but is usually a separate program. The functions of a certain spyware program can be malicious and may secretly work its havoc without you ever noticing it. They can be installed by posing as a freeware that is offering a computer user something useful. Once the freeware has been downloaded, the spyware may then find its way into your computer and do its dirty deed.
Spyware programs usually try to monitor your online activity and transmit that information to the spyware propagator. Some spyware programs will force your PC to download a certain software product even if you don’t want it. Some more malicious spyware programs even go to the extent of monitoring your keystrokes which makes it possible for some spyware propagators to record and find out about sensitive computer information such as passwords, credit card numbers and email addresses.
Some spyware programs are so sophisticated that they can snoop inside a computer user’s hard drive, spread its way into other computers, change and download software into a computer or even damage a PC’s internal system. In order to remedy such a threat, a computer should have an updated and effective spyware removal tool in order to get rid of such malicious and pesky programs.
